Privacy Policy

HIPPA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. It is a federal law that protects personal health information and gives patients an array of rights with respect to that information. Protected Health Information (PHI) is any information held by a covered entity which concerns health information that can be linked to an individual (think employers discriminating against or firing an employee due to their health.) Covered information includes things like name, geographic location, health status, religious affiliation, medical care, or payment information.

The law applies to health care providers, health plans, and employers who use electronic health care transactions. “Covered entities” are persons, businesses, or agencies which furnish, bill or receive payment for, health care in the normal course of business. Chaplain Guy is not a covered entity. It is a blog.

Nevertheless, I take HIPPA very seriously and have removed or changed all identifiers so that PHI is protected and people may not be identified. Names, medical conditions, histories and even the sex of the people in my stories have been changed. Sometimes I combine stories to illustrate a point. So, if you happen to read a story here that sounds familiar to you it is purely coincidental. Really!
